CAAC punishes Sichuan Airlines for potential accident

The Civil Aviation Administration of China has punished Sichuan Airlines for a serious potential accident.

Sichuan Airlines' EMB145 plane reportedly was involved in a dangerous accident when landing at Wanzhou Airport on July 29. Before that, the airlines' other flights also caused several potential accidents. These include landing on a wrong runway in Lhasa on April 2, delivering dangerous goods on May 11 and flying on a wrong route in Xinjiang on June 29.

As punishment, CAAC says it won't allow Sichuan Airlines to launch any new routes, add any new flights or run any chartered flights within this year and at the same time reduce the airlines' flight capacity in August by 1000 hours. As August is the high season for China's aviation industry, the reduction of 1000-hour flying means a big loss for Sichuan Airlines.
