Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport Obtains Approval To Expand

CAAC has said that National Development and Reform Commission has approved the feasibility study report for the expansion of Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.

According to the report, the expansion project aims to meet the requirement of handling 40 million passengers, one million tons of cargo, and 300,000 aircraft movements by 2015. The airport will have a new 3,300-meter-long, 60-meter-wide runway, a new 364,000-square-meter terminal building, and a freight station which can handle 600,000 tons of cargo annually, as well as supporting fire protection, power supply, oil supply, and communication facilities. The expansion project is planned to have an investment of RMB13.9 billion.

The expansion project for Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is expected to be completed before the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
