Luxury ship leads the way into the Bund
The Japanese luxury passenger liner, Fuji Maru, docked at the Shanghai International Cruise Terminal yesterday, the first of 22 passenger liners expected over the new few months.
The city will welcome 22 passenger liners up to December and almost double the number of cruise ship tourists as last year.
Fuji Maru arrived with 368 Japanese tourists and 134 crew and will make two return trips before November.
The Shanghai Entry-Exit Frontier Inspection Station said the foreign passenger liners will bring nearly 30,000 overseas tourists to Shanghai before the end of the year, 90 percent more than last year.
Except for the Sapphire Princess which will berth by the Waigaoqiao Port because of its size, all the other cruise ships will dock by the downtown cruise terminal to the north of the Bund.
Bund locals can expect a constant procession of attractive cruise ships over the next few months.
"We are trying to streamline the immigration procedure and ensure passengers can pass through the immigration checks within 45 seconds," said Lu Jun, an officer with the port immigration police.
