World Heritage sites saw crowds of tourists on May Holiday
China now has 33 World Heritage sites, which ranks the third place in the world.
These world cultural and natural treasures have become coveted tourist attractions and this fact was proved by the tourist floods they saw during the recent May Holiday.
Forbidden City in Beijing
Statistics from the Capital's Holiday Office show that all the sights in and around the city reached their largest reception capacity with the Summer Palace and Yonghe Lama Temple overcrowded. The arrivals to the Forbidden City were reported to reach 73,700 per day.
Although measures were taken to prevent the suffocating situation brought by tourist crush, the packed Forbidden City has exhausted many travelers' travel interests. Many of them complained they saw nothing more than crowds of people's backs.
As reported, during the 7-day holiday, travelers to the Forbidden City reached 440,000, an increase of 8 percent to last year's data.
Badaling Great Wall
Tourists to the Badaling Great Wall set a record of 62,000 daily, an increase of 34.1 percent to last year. The biggest crowd was reported at 4th, May at 72,000. The spit-flowing measure implemented by the sight administration failed to prevent the jostles and lines waiting for climbing the wall were common.
Pingyao Ancient Town
Around 371,200 travelers visited Pingyao during this holiday, which broke the record. All the hotels in the town were fully booked.
Longmen Grotto
Longmen Grotto boosts 9, 040,000 yuan tourist income with 140,800 arrivals. The biggest arrivals were reported at 3rd, May at 35,000. Emergent action was taken to ensure the smooth influx of tourists but the long lines before the cave entrance made many feel that they traveled to the sights at a wrong time.
Mt. Taishan
Mt Taishan reported 201,000 arrivals during the recent holiday, with the biggest crowd arriving at 2nd, May of 47,000.
Potala Palace
To offset the effect of the dramatic increase of tourist and protect the national relic, the Tibet Autonomous Region Tourism Bureau has taken a policy to restrict the numbers of visitors to the Patala Palace to 2,300 daily.
