Chinahighlights inspection trip to Pingyao
From April 5 to April 14, Nancy and Clare successfully undertook an inspection trip to Xian, Pingyao, Taiyuan, Datong, Beijing and Shanghai. In the trip, Pingyao is a highlight. This town, located in the central part of Shanxi Province, was originally built in the period of Xuan Emperor of Zhou Dynasty (817 B. C. -782 B. C.) and is one of the two best preserved ancient cities in China. There are intact ancient city walls, well-planned roads and streets, uniquely designed wood-structured houses and courtyards, historically famous Shanxi shops and commercial banks which were the early rudiments of Chinese modern banks and reached their height in the middle and late period of Qing Dynasty.
After careful inspection, we would like suggest two new Chinese Cultural tours:
Tour 1: 6 Days Beijing and Pingyao:

D1 Be met and transferred to the hotel with an English-speaking and a private car with driver. Take a rest.
D2 Full-day tour to Forbidden City and Summer Palace, then enjoy the Beijing Opera in the evening. Lying at the center of Beijing, the Forbidden City, called Gu Gong, in Chinese, was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. While the Summer Palace is the largest and best-preserved royal garden in China. After the whole-day royal tour, have a glimpse at Beijing Opera which ancient emporers and queens usuall took it as the part of night life.
D3 Full-day tour to the Great Wall, Sacred Road and Ding Tomb. Drive to the Great Wall and climb on it, the ever-exising wall zigzags on the back the mountains like a huge Chinese dragon; leave the Great Wall, not far, you will arrive at the Sacred Road along which emperors in the Ming Dynasty walked through it with the company of the huge stone animals and officials by the both sides of the road to honour their ancestors. After the Sacred Road is the Ding Tomb, one of the 13 tombs of the emperors in the Ming Dynasty. In the evening, enjoy the Beijing Roasted Duck.
D4 Half-day tour to Hutong to see common people?¡¥s daily life. People in Beijing used to live in narrow streets which are called Hutong. All the Hutongs crisscross with Siheyuan scattering among them. In this tour, rickshaws will take you shuttling around the Hutongs to see the Kingdergarten, the Bell Tower, Drum Tower, Tea House, Shichahai Lake and House of Gong Infante and have a visit of the local people. Enjoy your free time in the afternoon and take night train to Taiyuan.
D5 Be met at the railway station and drive to visit Jin Ancestral Temple, Family Qiao's House, Double Forest Temple and Pingyao Ancient City. Jin Ancestral Temple was built in 11th century B.C. to memorize the king at the time who did grear jobs to his people. Chinese traditional lanterns can be seen everywhere in the Family Qiao's House where you will have a general idea of what one of the six Confucian virtues Propriety means. After the Double Forest Temple which is famous for its vivid earth scuptures, you will enter Pingyao Ancient City which is one of the two best preserved ancient cities (the other is Lijiang in Yunnan province) in China. you will see Ri Sheong Chang, a former banking intitution and also rudiment of Chinese banks; Market Tower; Ancient City Wall and Ming and Qing Dynasty Street.
D6 Take a free and leisure wander in the city to have a further understanding of the Chinese culture in Qing Dynasty. Be transferred to the railway station in the evening for the train back to Beijing.
Tour 2: 3 Days weekend excursion from Beijing (to Pingyao)
D1 Take night train to Taiyuan.
