Weekend Hiking Trip to Yangshuo

thatCHT arranged a hiking trip along the Li River for its team last weekend. About 23 members took part in the trip and Jack Mo was the tour leader of that group. Our hiking route was from Yangdi to Xingping, about 6 hours walk. A bus was arranged to pick us at Xingping in the afternoon.

We were transferred to Yangdi by a luxurious bus. Interests en route were"shows"performed by some members of our group. Several of us were invited to give performance to others. The programs we had including singing songs, dances, telling a joke and so on, which were all quite interesting.

Looked out the window, green vegetation and flowers were everywhere. It's spring now. In our less than one hour bus trip, we passed by vast clear farmland amidst which couples of farmers working, tiny roadside villages where huddles of men playing cards right by the road, orange gardens and gently flowing rivers.

We started hiking from Yangdi Dock. There are three crossing points that we have to take along our trip and Yangdi is the first one. Our company has arranged every detail for us; tickets for boats crossing the river were booked in advance.

In our around 6 hours hiking, we passed Langshi village, an beautiful riverside village, Nine Horses Mural, a natural shaped image of nine horses in different positions, Yellow Cloth Shoal, where peaks are steep and the river is wide and quite and a huge yellow flagstone lying under the still water can easily be seen, and much more. We reached at Xingping at about 4 pm. Our bus picked us there and headed further for Yangshuo.

Yangshuo is a tiny town set among several craggy limestone pinnacles. Hailed as the most beautiful place on the earth, Yangshuo is extremely popular among tourists. CHT has booked us the West Street Hotel right in the West Street. Our hotel is good, we had a big room with simple furniture and a big balcony with nice street view.

We tried the famous local dishes for our dinner. Restaurants serving basically the same food are plentiful in this town. Jack decided to have our dinner at Xiedajie(sister Xie) Restaurant. It is a large building block with more than 3 floors. We tried the Beer Fish- a famous the Li River local dish that is supposed to be on the table of all who visit Yangshuo. As is common in Chinese cuisine, the whole fish was deep fried and then cooked along with beer, green peppers and tomatoes. Another tasty dish we had was the Stir Fried Snails. Yangshuo is well-known for its fat, juicy snails. Snails are abundant in the area and no doubt you will see them being harvested as you are riding around the countryside. After thoroughly washed, they are stir fried with pickle bamboo shoots, pickle peppers, gingers.

At that night, we entertained ourselves at a local bar called Meiyou Bar, also located at the West Street.

The next day, we had an inspection on some hotels which we are now using or we may use in the near future to ensure we provide our customers the satisfactory accommodation. Our bus took us back to

[Page]Guilin in about 2 pm. Although we all a little tired, but amazing scenery we enjoyed and the traveling experience we gained well nourished our ached body.
