Train from Shanghai to Lhasa is to Open on October 1

After the successful introduction of 3 new train services to Lhasa from Beijing, Xining / Lanzhou, hengdu / Chongqing, China Rail is planning to introduce a service from Shanghai  to Lhasa commencing on October 1st 2006. This service will link eastern China (Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou) to Tibet. The train will be equipped with an oxygen-supply system to maintain the air pressure at a suitable level.

 

It will take around 52 hours to travel to Tibet from Shanghai via that train.  No information is available on pricing, schedules as yet.
