The 27th Longqing Gorge Lantern Festival opened on January 10, 2013 and will last to late February. The festival will bring a dazzling burst of color yo winter in Beijing’s Yanqing County, where the Badaling Section of the Great Wall is located.

During the festival, thousands of lanterns light up Longqing Gorge. The gorge has four main areas: a snow sculpture area, a multi-colored lantern area, an ice sculpture exhibition area, and a international ice sculpture competition area.

Visitors can appreciate more than 350 ice lanterns, over 60 snow sculptures, over 200 displays of flower lanterns, and over 300 tree lanterns. The highlights are a 42-meter-long snow sculpture — "the Song of Peace" — and a series of ice lanterns with a Korean culture theme.

Other recommended things to do in Yanqing County in winter are: skiing in Shijinglong Ski Resort and bathing in Xiaotangshan Hot Springs.
