China Will Continue Charging Airport Construction Fee

China's Ministry of Finance has just issued a circular on the government's fund policy in 2007, including information about the airport construction fees levied on air tickets.

Approved by the State Council, China will continue to levy airport construction fees this year. This is the sixteenth year that China's civil aviation department had levied an airport construction fee, and the fee has been increased from RMB15 to RMB50 over the years.

The civil aviation department in China has received more than RMB30 billion from the airport construction fee in the past years although many people are wondering what this big amount of money is used for. A representative from CAACsays that as government funds, airport construction fees are a main income for the national coffers, and it is used for airport construction and expansion.

From 1992 to 2005, the civil airports in China have increased to 142 from 100, and all the provincial capital cities and those main travel cities had re-modeled their airports. The airport construction fee that they collected in the past 15 years was mainly used for solving the busy situation in eastern China and the safety projects in the western China area.
