Train from Guangzhou to Lhasa is to Open On October 1st

After the successful introduction of 3 new train services to Lhasa from Beijing, Xining / Nanzhou and Chengdu / Chongqing, China Rail is planning to introduce a service from Guangzhou to Lhasa commencing on October 1st 2006. The service form Guangzhou-the capital of Guangdong in Southern China, will operate every other day. This service will link southern China and Hong Kong to Tibet. Three trains will be operated on the route with each train having 18 sealed cars. Each car will be equipped with an oxygen-supply system to maintain the air pressure at a suitable level. Each seat will be equipped with an oxygen mask which can be used by individual passengers if needed. The train has 8 hard sleeper cars, 2 soft sleeper cars, 4 hard seat cars and 1 restaurant car. Television is installed in the restaurant and sleeper cars. No information is available on pricing as yet.
