Guangzhou-Shenzhen High-Speed Railway Now Available
Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway, a section of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway, is open to traffic today, December 26, 2011. The Guangzhou-Shenzhen section has 5stations: Guangzhou South Station (广州南站), Dongyong Station in Panyu District (番禺东涌站), Humen Station in Dongguan City (东莞虎门站), Guangming Station in Shenzhen (深圳光明站) and Shenzhen North Station (深圳北站).
Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway is 147 kilometers long, and every day from 07:00 to 22:00, there are 36 pairs of G trains (the fastest train in China) running between these two cities. The running speed can reach to 300 kilometers per hour, and the shortest time for a journey is 35 minutes (compared with about 1 hour by a D train). Guangzhou-Shenzhen high-speed railway can be extended to Wuhan (see Wuhang-Guangzhou high-speed railway) in Central China and Hong Kong. However, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong section is still under construction. At present, the time for a journey between Shenzhen and Wuhan can be short as 4 hours, and that for a journey between Shenzhen and Beijing can be short as 10 hours. When the Shenzhen-Hong Kong section is available, the time for a journey between Shenzhen and Kowloon in Hong Kong is only 20 minutes.
