Guilin has got approval to launch a 72-hour visa-free transit policy and 144-hour visa-free entry policy. It is expected that the 72-hour visa-free transit policy will be operated in August this year. But the specific implementation dates for the policies have not been released.
Currently foreign tourists can enjoy 72-hour visa-free travel in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, Dalian, and Shenyang. Tourists with an onward flight to a third destination can stay in these cities for up to 72 hours to go shopping, go sightseeing, or do business without a visa. Now Guilin is the eighth mainland city of China to be given permission to for a 72-hour visa-free policy. The 144-hour visa-free entry policy will allow foreign tourists to travel around Guilin prefecture for up to 6 days without a visa.
