Kanas Airport temporarily closed
Air tickets from Urumqi to Kanas are currently not available although the first flight connection proved to be successful. Travelers who want to experience the stunning beauty of the region have to fly to Altay first and connect with their flight via bus.
The Kanas Airport is now not able to ensure the smooth operation of airplanes and has therefore been closed although it succeeded in receiving its first flight from Urumqi on 15th this month.
Tourists who were planning their flight trips were informed flight between Urumqi and Altay was not able to operate against the original schedule due to problems at the Altay airport. Air tickets are not available right now and there is no further information on when the air route will be resumed.
The Kanas Airport, around 68 kilometers away from the Kanas Scenic Area, was supposed to be capable of operating airplane Boeing 737-800. China Southern Airline was scheduled to open a daily service from Urumqi to facilitate travelers after its first successful operation.
