Lhasa Sky Lures Travelers

¡°Sky has never before been so blue just as pure as the sea, and I'm even reluctant to leave Lhasa.¡± says Ms Zhang, a traveler from central China's Hebei province.

With the golden week of May 1-7 approaching, Lhasa is luring more and more tourists. Besides experiencing magic Tibetan culture, Lhasa, capital of China's remote Himalaya's region will pleasantly surprise visitors for its fresh air, purely blue sky and fluffy white clouds in this "Sunshine City", where there average annual sunshine is 3000 hours

In order to keep sky azure blue, Lhasa Municipality has been taking various measures to protect the environment. The urban air quality is far much better than that of most of China's inland provinces. Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides in air keep a low level which can achieve first standard of national ambient air quality, says Leng Guoqiang, chief of the supervision and management of pollution control of Lhasa Environmental Protection Bureau.

It is reported that Lhasa Municipality has been strictly controlling vehicle exhaust pollution due to an increasing number of motor vehicles these years. Efforts have also been made to develop clean energy with the aim of replacing traditional energy. Major supermarkets and shops in Lhasa have introduced measures to use recyclable bags instead of plastic bags in order to reduce environmental pollution.
