Longji International Photography Competition to Kick Off in May 2010

Longji International Photography Competition will be held at the Longji Rice Terraces Scenic Area from May 1 until October 15, 2010.

The Longji Rice Terraces Scenic Area is located about 108 kilometers (67miles) northwest of Guilin City. The rice terraces were first built in the Yuan Dynasty about 700 years ago by the ethnic inhabitants. The ribbon like terraces wind from the riverside to the mountain top, with the highest part being 880 meters (2887 feet) and the lowest part 380 meters (1247 feet) in elevation. The Scenic Area is also famous for its ethnic minority people groups and their unique customs. Over 10 ethnic groups live in villages in the area.

The organizers of the competition will invite 150 famous Chinese and international photographers to participate in the competition. Amateur photographers are also welcomed. The first prize winner will receive a cash prize of RMB 200,000 (USD 29,326).

The photographs need to depict the scenery, culture or ethnic customs from the Longji Rice Terraces Scenic Area. Participants pay a RMB 200 as registration fee which include an admission ticket, a participant’s certificate and a photography manual, and need submit their work to the address below before October 15, 2010, in person or by mail.
