More trains to travel outside Tibet
China's Railway Bureau has recently announced its plan to add more train services to the Qinghai-Tibet railway to cater to the increasing demand for train travel outside Tibet. The added train service will operate from 2nd August to 18th October, covering Tibet's "Golden Travel Period". The period of August to October is considered as the best time to visit Tibet due to its hospitable weather condition.
Ticket for the new supplementary train has been available on sale since 25th this month. The Lhasa train station begins to sell tickets 10 days prior to the departure, an exception of the conventional practice of China's rail system, which do not accept booking until 2 days prior to departure.
The new daily service (N920) is scheduled to leave Lhasa at 19:03 and arrive in Xining, capital of the Qinghai Province around 20:19 the next night with a short stopover of 20 minutes at the Golmud Railway Station from 09:34 to 09:54. The concerns of interference of the new train service to the original N918 train has been reassured by the Lhasa Railway Administration, who confirmed that the N918 service from Lhasa to Xining wouldn't be affected at all due to the difference in depart time of the two trains. The N918 train sets off the Tibet capital at 11:20 and stops over Damingxiong, Nagqu, Ando, Golmud and reach Xining. 11:44 the next day.
