New Seven Wonders of the World announced
The result of the "New Seven Wonders of the World" vote was announced last saturday in Lisbon, Portugal. The Great Wall of China, Brazil's Statue of Christ Redeemer, Peru's Machu Picchu, and Mexico's Chichen Itza pyramid, Jordan's Petra, the Colosseum in Rome and India's Taj Mahal are the final seven winners.
The seven new sites were chosen from 21 candidates provided by the organizer according to a number of about 100 million votes cast by people around the world over the internet and by cell phone text massages.
The Great Pyramids of Giza, the only surviving marvels from the original seven wonders of the ancient world, kept their statues in addition to the new seven after the indignant Egypt officials said it was a disgrace that they had to compete for a spot.
