No renovations during the 2008 Olympics

Cultural relics and historical buildings in Beijing will not undergo renovation or repair during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The Municipal Cultural Relics Bureau has stated that this plan will be initiated to prevent problems during the Games and to give visitors that best possible opportunity to see Beijing's heritage. An upper limit of visitor numbers will also be imposed during the Olympic Games to prevent damage from overuse.

According to plan, 600 million RMB will be invested in repairing and protecting cultural relic and historical buildings in the next 5 years. Sites outside Beijing will be the focus of attention during the Olympic Period.

Renovation and repairs to the Confucius temple and the Imperial College will be finished before Olympics and 3-5 Prince's Mansions will be open to tourists soon.

All the cultural relic and old buildings will have bi-lingual signs.
