Education Base for Popularization of Giant Panda Knowledge Complete in Guilin
An opening ceremony, to celebrate the completion of the education base for popularization of giant panda knowledge, was held in the afternoon on September 20, in Seven Star Scenic Area, Guilin.
On the same day, panda Yue Yue moves to her new house. Her new mate panda Yang Yang will join from Wolong Giant Panda Breeding Centre on September 28 to form a new family in Guilin. From then on, the education base will have upgraded to a synthetic breeding system mingling protection, research and popularization of science at one place where used to raise giant panda only.
The education base will officially open to the public on October 1. Covering an area of 2,500 square meters, the base consists of rest rooms for mature giant panda and sub-mature giant panda, physical examination room, hall of specimen of giant panda, corridor, play ground for panda, souvenir shop, panda club and keeper observation room.
According to Ms Zhang Guilan, general manager of Seven Star Scenic Area, the base is lying at the foot of Putuo hill, which makes it possible to convey cool air from grottos to every rest room for panda via underground conduit. Besides, the base is equipped with 24-hour monitoring system and manned several veteran panda keepers and research workers, which will ensure the health of panda better.
