Shanghai South Railway Station Is to Open on July 1

After four years' construction, Shanghai South Railway Station will be opened to traffic on July 1. Three ticket offices of the station have already been put into use on June 29, which will be in 24 hour service after the opening of the station on July 1. From July 1, the railway station will run 32 pairs of trains daily, which will travel to the major cities in the surrounding areas and beyond such as Hangzhou and Ningbo in Zhejiang province, Nanjing in Jiangsu Province and Fuzhou and Guangzhou in south China.

Compared with the Shanghai Railway Station, which is the busiest station in the city so far, the South Railway Station provides more convenience for ticket booking. Electronic screens were set up in the office buildings to inform passengers of the ticket information.

The whole station, including the waiting hall, two squares and other supporting buildings, has around 600,000 square meters. There are 12 waiting halls in the station which can hold up to 6,000 passengers.
