1st cultural-diversity demonstration zone to be built in Turpan
Currently, Turpan, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is planning to build China's first international cultural-diversity demonstration zone.
Turpan has long been a very important port between Eastern and Western cultures, as its culture is imbued with the spirit of the cultures of ancient China, India, Arabia and Greece. Here various ethnic groups and religions have existed side by side in harmony. As a matter of fact, documents found here were written in several languages.
Now the local government has worked out a specific plan for the development of cultural industry, to make the most of its precious cultural heritages and to turn Turpan into a platform of cultural communication between China and the rest of the world.
In the past few years, Turpan has invested a large amount of money to restore its cultural heritages, like Karez, an ancient underground channel-connected well system, which is still in use today, the ruins of Jiaohe City and the Astana ancient tombs.
