Terracotta Soldiers Home Spend Huge Money on Protecting Cultural Relics
The provincial government of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, the home of the world-famous terracotta soldiers, plans to spend 500 million yuan (62.5 million U.S. dollars) to protect cultural relics, said a local official.
According to Zhao Rong, director of the Shaanxi Cultural Relics Bureau, the money will be used to protect Chang'an ,the former capital city of the Han and Tang dynasties and the Epang Palace, built by first Chinese emperor Qinshihuang 2,200 years ago.
Shaanxi boasts 10,497 historic sites and 4,368 ancient tombs, including the famous Qinshihuang's Tomb where the terracotta warriors were unearthed.
Damage done by humans is the biggest threat to the cultural relics, said Zhao.
With the money, local governments will improve the environment of the sites, replace some basic facilities and build necessary fences.
