Taian is a famous tourist city in the center of Shandong Province, being right at the foot of the magnificent Mount Tai. Taian is about 80 kilometers (49.7 miles) from Ji'nan, the capital city of Shandong Province, and about 50 kilometers (31.1 miles) from Qufu, the hometown of Confucius. In Taian urban area, every street stretches from east to west and every road stretches from south to north.
There is no airport in Taian. However, passengers can arrive at Ji'nan Yaoqiang International Airport (济南遥墙国际机场), which is 90 kilometers from Taian City, and then take an airport shuttle bus to Taian. Every day, there are 6 buses running between the airport and Taishan Shuttle Terminal (about 200 meters west of Taian Stadium, which is located in 46 Daizong Street, Taishan District: 泰山区岱宗大街46号). The approximate ticket fare is 70 yuan.
Passengers also can take a taxi from the airport to Taian, which costs about 130 yuan. In addition, trains and coaches are also available. The place for catching a coach is the parking lot facing to Ji'nan Railway Station and Ji'nan Long-Distance Coach/Bus Station, and the length of the time for a journey is about 80 minutes.
There are two railway stations in Taian: a common railway station for parking common trains (including K trains and T trains): Taishan Railway Station (泰山火车站), and a special railway station for parking bullet trains (including D trains and G trains): Taian Railway Station (泰安站).
Taishan Railway Station is located in the west end of Caiyuan Street (财源街). Passengers can arrive there by taking bus 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 12. Every day, there are 92 trains arriving and depicturing from the station, carrying passengers to many domestic cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Ji'nan, Yantai, Qingdao and Guangzhou. The departure interval for trains to Ji'nan is 20 minutes, and the length of the time for a journey is about 1 hour; and the trains to Qufu depart at 17:20 and 21:11 with 1.5-hour runtime.
Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway runs across Taian city, and the bullet trains (including D trains and G trains) parks in Taian Bullet Train Station. Every day, dozens of bullet trains arrives and departs at the station. Passengers can catch a bullet train to Ji’nan, Beijing, Shanghai, Fuzhou, Tianjin, Nanjing, Qingdao and Hangzhou. Taian Bullet Train Station is located to the south of government building in Daiyue District (岱岳区), passengers can take bus 17 or 18 and get off at Taian Railway Station (泰安站) to get at the station.
There are two main coach/bus stations in Taian.
Taian Old Coach/Bus Station (泰安老汽车站) is the bigger bus station in Taian, located in the joint of the Taishan Street (泰山大街), Longtan Road (龙潭路) and Lingshan Street (灵山大街). It is only 10 minutes' walk from Taishan Railway Station. Every day, hundreds of coaches/buses depart from the station to many cities both inside and outside Shandong Province, including Beijing, Ji'nan, Tianjin, Nanjing and Shijiazhuan.
Taian New Coach/Bus Station (泰安新汽车站) is located in the west section of the Dongyue Street (东岳大街). Coaches departing to many cities and counties both inside and outside Shandong Province are available there, such as coaches to Shijianzhuang, Qingdao, Kaifeng, Baoding, Ji'nan,Tianjin, Suzhou, Zhengzhou, Hangzhou, Beijing and Yiwu.
Taian has about 30 bus routes, and most of which run pass Taishan Railway Station. Taking a city bus costs 1 yuan per person, and there is no conductor on the bus but self-service ticketing. Hence passengers need to prepare 1 yuan before getting on a bus.
The flag down fare for first 2 kilometers (1.2 mils) is 6 yuan, and then it charges 1.5 yuan for each additional kilometer (0.6 miles). Taxi fare would increase in the night after 22:00, however, passengers can bargain.
There are two start points for mountaineering: the Red Gate (红门) or Tainwai Village (天外村), which are the two terminals of bus route 3. The Red Gate is the start point for hiking, while the Tainwai Village is the start point for taking tourist bus to the go up the mountain.
If you are in Taian New Coach/Bus Station, you can take bus 1 to Taishan Railway Station and then transfer to bus 3 to the Red Gate (红门) or Tainwai Village (天外村), which are the start points of mountaineering. If you are in Taian Old Coach/Bus Station, you can walk northward and take bus 2 to Taishan Railway Station, and then transfer to bus 3 to the Red Gate or Tainwai Village. Taking a taxi from above two places to t he Red Gate or Tainwai Village costs about 10 yuan.
If you are in Taishan Railway Station, you can take bus 3 to the two start points, and the fare for taking a taxi to the star points is about 10 yuan.
