Day 1: Arrival in Changsha

Day 2: The Mao Zedong’s Former Residence Tour

Today you will be driven to Mao Zedong’s hometown — Shaoshan, about a one hour and a half’s drive. This morning you will visit the Water Dripping Cave, a three-kilometer long canyon with verdant plants and a small stream flowing from the top.

Lunch is at a Chinese restaurant serving local-styled dishes.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Ancestral Hall of Mao Family and the Former Residence of Mao Zedong.

Built and opened to the public in 1964, the Ancestral Hall of Mao Family has 13 rooms. The exhibits there include 100 pieces of Mao Zedong's manuscripts and 72 items of Mao's personal belongings.

The Former Residence of Mao Zedong is a very common farmhouse built with mud bricks, wood, and tiles. It is the place where Mao was born and spent his childhood and boyhood. Mao family photos and daily household utensils are exhibited there. Most of the furnishings are original.

 
Day 3: The Yuelu Academy and Hunan Embroidery Research Institute Tour

This morning excursion includes Yuelu Academy and Hunan Provincial Museum. Yuelu Academy is one of the most famous four ancient academies in China. It was first built in A.D. 976, this well-preserved millennium academy has witnessed China’s reform of education in more than one thousand years.

Hunan Provincial Museum is the biggest comprehensive museum in Hunan Province, exhibiting over 180,000 historical relics, including stone implements in the Neolithic Age and the unearthed cultural relics in the Han Tomb at Mawangdui.

After lunch you will visit Hunan Embroidery Research Institute to appreciate the elegant and exquisite embroidery made with typical Hunan style, in terms of the embroidery skills and the content. It has a collection of over 6,000 pieces of authentic and high-quality embroidery.

After finishing your discovery in Hunan, you will be transfered to the station or the airport for your next destination.
