Youli Ancient Castle has rich ancient Daoism connections and according to legend the Book of Changes (about the balance of yin and yang) was written here. The Museum of Chinese Characters covers a period of around 4,000 years and is an excellent place to learn about the history and the development of Chinese characters.Meals:Lunch
Kaifeng is one of the Eight Ancient Capitals in China, made a hub of commerce by the Grand Canal. According to some estimates it was the largest city in the world from 1013 to 1127, but then fell from favor after invasion.
Dragon Pavilion, surrounded by a beautiful park, was once an imperial palace; the present building is from Qing Dynasty. Over 1,400 years old Grand Xiangguo Monastery in the center of Kaifeng is one of the most famous temples of China and the subject of uncountable legends.
Millennium City Park by Longting Lake is a historical theme park dedicated to depicting the social structure and architecture of the Song Dynasty. It also has a museum of the history of people of Jewish descent that lived in Kaifeng. Kaifeng Jewish Quarters is the remnants of the areas where Jewish community flourished for thousand years, until early 1900s. It offers interesting and unexpected insights.Meals:Lunch
The drive to Dengfeng takes you through forests and hilly countryside. Shaolin Temple, the birthplace of kungfu and wushu, has a small theater where visitors can watch the monks demonstrate their kungfu skills.
The Pagoda Forest is a picturesque collection of small pagodas constructed to commemorate certain kungfu masters; we’ll also make a short visit here.
We stop for lunch at the Yongtai Nunnery, which serves delicious vegetarian food.Meals:Lunch
Luoyang has an illustrious history; it was an important center in ancient times and one of the four famous capitals. Ancient sites are abundant, some that we have chosen include: Longmen Grottoes, a World Heritage Site; White Horse Temple, considered the birthplace of Buddhism in China;
and the Emperor Carriage Museum, which depicts the custom of burying the horses along with carriages in imperial funerals.
On a stroll through Luoyang Old Town we stop in a museum of folk art, such as paper cutting.
Your excursion of the birth place of much of the Chinese culture is over. Your guide will take you to Luoyang airport for your flight onward.
