A fascinating place to ponder his life, as well as observe the reactions of the local people to his embalmed body. It was actually Ho Chi Minh's express wish to be cremated so this presents an extra frisson to the place. Very strict rules on dress and behavior apply and photography is forbidden. The mausoleum is closed for three months of the year, normally from September onwards.
- Temple of Literature (40 minutes): This ancient Confucian sanctuary is now considered one of Hanoi's finest historical sites. The temple is based on Confucius' birthplace at Qufu in the Chinese province of Shandong. It consists of five courtyards lined out in order, entrance to the first, via the impressive twin-tiered Văn Miếu gate, leads to three pathways that run the length of the complex.

Day 3

- Ha Long Bay Cruise: Ha Long Bay consists of a dense cluster of over 3,000 limestone monolithic islands (although locals claim there are only 1,969 as this is the year of Ho Chi Minh's death).
Viewed from above, Ha Long Bay looks like an extremely vivid huge drawing, and sailing beneath the bay is like leisuring in between a huge valley on water. Ha Long bay is exactly a wonderfully skilful masterpiece of Nature that turns thousands of dumb soulless stone islands into fantastic sculptural and artistic works of various graceful shapes, both familiar and strange to human beings. Thousands of islands emerging in the fanciful waves look strong and magnificent but also mild and vivid. Amidst these islands tourists may feel as if they were astrayed in a petrified legendary world.

Day 6

Place & Transport: Siem Reap
Today's Activities: Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bakheng Hill,
Meals: Breakfast, Chinese Lunch

- Angkor Wat: There are few places anywhere on earth to match the splendour of Angkor Wat. The temple is one of the largest monuments to religion ever built and is truly one the wonders of the world. Believed to have been constructed as a temple and mausoleum for King Suryavarman II at the peak of the Khmer empire in the first half of the 12th century, Angkor Wat is probably the best-preserved of the Angkorean temples. As with other Angkorean temples and walled cities such as Angkor Thom, the central theme of Khmer architecture revolved around the idea of the temple-mountain. By the time building on Angkor Wat was begun early in the 12th century, this had been elaborated to a central tower surrounded by four smaller towers. The central monument represents the mythical Mount Meru, the holy mountain at the centre of the universe, which was home to the Hindu god Vishnu. The five towers symbolise Mount Meru's five peaks.
A rectangular wall measuring 1025 metres by 800 metres borders the inner edge of the moat. There is a gate in each side of the wall, but unusually for the mainly Hindu-influenced Angkorian temples, the main entrance faces west. This entrance is a richly decorated portico, 235 m wide with three gates. However, the temple's greatest sculptural treasure is its 2 km-long bas-reliefs around and walls of the outer gallery and the hundred figures of devatas and apsaras. This intricately carved gallery te
- Angkor Thom: The dimensions of Angkor Thom is simply mind boggling. It is a square piece of walled up area measuring a massive 360 acres (9 sq km!) and surrounded by a gigantic moat. Each side of Angkor Thom is three kilometres long. The moat surrounding the outer wall is 100 metres wide. But what makes the first sight of Angkor Thom so awesome are the causeways.
There are five entrances into Angkor Thom, four in each cardinal direction, north, south, east and west, while the fifth, called the Victory Gate, leads eastwards from the Angkor Thom Royal Palace grounds. Each of these used to have a causeway leading towards it, but today only the south gate has water under it.
Angkor Thom is located to the northwest of Angkor Wat. By area, Angkor Thom is bigger than Angkor Wat; the difference is Angkor Thom consists of a collection of ancient ruins whereas Angkor Wat is one single massive building. Angkor Thom includes many temples, terraces, as well as the royal palace - of which what remains are the walls and the royal ponds - all within a perfectly square area, bounded by high walls, and punctuated by the five entrance gateways, called Gopuras. It is indeed, as its name imply, a great ancient city.

Day 7

Place & Transport: Depart Siem Reap, Flight not included
Today's Activities: Tonle Sap Lake, Hotel to airport Transfer (Siem Reap)

- Tonle Sap Lake: The Boeung Tonle Sap (Tonle Sap Lake,) is the most prominent feature on the map of Cambodia - a huge dumbbell-shaped body of water stretching across the northwest section of the country. In the wet season, the Tonle Sap Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Asia, swelling to an expansive 12,000 km2. During the dry half of the year the Lake shrinks to as small as 2500 km2, draining into the Tonle Sap River, which meanders southeast, eventually merging with the Mekong River at the 'chaktomuk' confluence of rivers opposite Phnom Penh.
