Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Beijing

Day 2: Beijing: Mutianyu Great Wall, Temple of Heaven

The sight of the great Wall winding into the distance does not get much more impressive as it is on the Mutiayu section; due to the strategic importance, more than usual watch towers were built here. There area also less local tourists, so it is less crowded, and yet there is a cable car takes you to the top for easy access.
The Temple of Heaven is actually a complex of buildings, built in a strict south-north axis for the purpose of performing annual ceremonial sacrifices for a good harvest. In the past no ordinary man was allowed to set foot inside; now ironically locals use the adjacent park as their favorite exercise place.

 
Day 3: Beijing: Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Treasure Houses, Hutong Tour

Tiananmen Square has seen centuries of key events as the entryway to the Forbidden City. The gates and halls of this magnificent ancient palace carry the golden roofs reserved for emperors alone; your guide will tell you more of the symbolism behind the architecture, and the objects in the Treasure Houses.
Hutong Tour reveals a different side of Beijing, through alleyways leading to leafy compounds and a visit to a local family’s home. Yinding Bridge in the charming Shichahi part of the city is a lovely end to the day, and you can continue to wander on the hutong alleys and choose a place for dinner among the many restaurants and quant little shops.

 
Day 4: Flight to Xi’an: Shaanxi History Museum, Ancient City Wall

After a morning flight to Xi’an, you still have time to see the Shaanxi History Museum to get a feeling of the background of this ancient capital of China. The exhibitions are beautifully presented and your guide will make sure you get the most out of the experience.
The Ancient City Wall is still surrounding the old part of Xi’an. The wall is a magnificent sight and is so wide that on the top several rickshaws can ride side by side at the same time. Another option is to cycle, enjoying a bird’s eye overview of this charming city. If the weather is not good, or you would prefer, the guide can take you to see the Bell Tower.

 
Day 5: Xi’an: Terracotta Army, Big Wild Goose Pagoda

The Terracotta Warriors and Horses provide a fascinating insight into the reign of an emperor capable of organizing such a display of power during ancient times. Even today it still leaves you speechless.
Big Wild Goose Pagoda in the city is a landmark from the 7th century, built to house Buddhist relics.

 
Day 6: Flight to Shanghai, The Bund, Nanjing Road
Shanghai the Bund

The morning flight takes you to Shanghai in time for lunch and then to explore one of the most famous streets in Shanghai: The Bund, the famous colonial hub where several buildings have withstood the time.
Then on to Nanjing Road, the glitziest shopping street in town.

 
Day 7: Shanghai: Yuyuan Garden, Yuyuan Market, Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, The Shanghai World Financial Center, High Speed Train to Suzhou

Yuyuan Garden was privately owned for centuries, but now is a haven in the middle of urban cityscape, and a stunning example of classical Ming Dynasty style. Yuyuan Market on the surrounding streets is full of vendors selling everything possible, and the City God Temple within the market is a center of Buddhist worship.
Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall lets you peak into the future of this teeming metropolis, and the viewing deck on the Shanghai World Financial Center gives a magnificent view of the present.

 
Day 8: Suzhou: Grand Canal, Garden of the Master of Nets, Lingering Garden, Tiger Hill

The Grand Canal is not only a testimony to the engineering skills of the ancient Chinese, but a fascinating view into local people’s lives on board a boat cruise.
Two of the famous garden of Suzhou are the Garden of the Master of Nets, smallest but cleverly designed to appear larger, and Lingering Garden where a succession of beautifully landscaped spaces leads you through to a pavilion for each season.
Tiger Hill has been a tourist sight for centuries, as it was famous already in ancient times for several legends. The Cloud Rock Pagoda on the top is over millennia old, and started leaning about 400 years ago.

 
Day 9: Suzhou: Humble Administrators Garden, High Speed Train to Shanghai

Humble Administrators Garden was a dream of a retired official in the Ming Dynasty, completed in 16 years and gambled away by his son. It is the largest of all gardens in Suzhou and exquisitely designed. A rickshaw ride through the hutongs and old streets ends the day with a colorful insight into local people’s lives.
In the afternoon a short ride on the high speed train takes you back to Shanghai.

 
Day 10: Depart Shanghai

If your flight leaves later in the day, just tell your travel advisor and we will organize a later transfer for you to the airport.
