Chengdu Lantern Festival(Feb. 9-Feb. 9, 2009): Chengdu Lantern Festival is on the basis of a traditional folk custom activity of appreciating lanterns in the fifteenth day of the first month in China’s lunar calendar. Now the festival lasts for a month. During the Lantern Festival, the folk art show and acrobatics are held in parks. People can also have a taste of a variety of local flavor snacks.
The Releasing Water Festival on Tomb Sweeping Day(Apr. 5-Apr. 5, 2009): Dujiangyan Irrigation Project, although completed over 2,000 years ago, still functions not only as a flood prevention mechanism, but also as an immense source of irrigation as well as a means to facilitate shipping and wood drifting these days. It has been the lifeblood of the Chengdu Plain for thousands of years. On every Tomb-sweeping Day before the season of spring ploughing, the water in the dam recedes, and a great ceremony has been always held. And high officials would be dressed in costumes, chanting the eulogy to Li Bing and his son’s contribution (Li Bing and his son are the builder of the project.).

Jindian Temple Fair(Feb. 3-Feb. 3, 2009): Traditional Jindian Temple Fair is held in Jindian Park from the 8th day of the first month of lunar calendar to the 10th day. Pilgrims will be al over the Mingfeng Mountain. Local snacks of Kunming, such as Shaoerkuai (baked cake made of boiled rice), Guanguan Rice Noodle (rice noodle cooked in small jars), Zhuazhuafen (a sweet cold food for summer) and Rose Miliangxia (rice milk in a shrimp’s shape with rose sugar) etc, can be found everywhere on the mountain. Also from the foot of the mountain to the top are all kinds of special local products. It is as bustling as many other temple fairs in other places. There will be all kinds of special local products and food in the fair. Tourists can also enjoy the beautiful flowers in the park, various entertainment activities and a large mass artistic performance etc.
Kunming International Cultural Tourism Festival(May. 1-May. 3, 2009): China Kunming International Cultural Tourism Festival will be celebrated every May Day, as well as Kunming Carnival, during which the well-dressed performance teams will get on the stage and give colorful and featured ethnic singing and dancing performances. Tourists will experience the crazy and interactive performances and enjoy the fun and happiness. Every time during the festival Kunming City becomes a “sea of happiness”.
