On May 5th of the lunar calendar, 278 BC, Qu Yuan, the patriotic poet, drowned himself in the Miluo River. In order to commemorate the poet and his world-famous celebrity, Yueyang City held ten consecutive international dragon boat races in the 1980s and 1990s. More than 100 teams from all over the world participate in the competitions.
"China's traditional festivals have a long history and most of them have spread in some form throughout East Asia. Actually, Dragon Boat Festivals have been celebrated outside of China for many years --- including in Denver, Colorado and Los Angeles and San Francisco, California in the United States.
Such heritage chiefly focuses on cultures so that they can be cherished and protected by the entire world.
