Chinese New Year Travel Map

Chinese New Year is the busiest travel time of the year. A special term " chunyun" has been given to refer to the new year travel season. The Chunyun travel peak usually begins 15 days before the festival and lasts for around 40 days. The busiest travel routes before the festival are those from China's coast cities to the inland provinces or regions, because millions of migrant workers travel home to have reunion dinners with their families. After the festival, routes to the coast cities become very crowded as people need to go to work. In general, Guangzhou is the most crowded transportation hub during the new year period as the city has the largest migrant workers in China. See below rail maps showing the busy pre- and postr-festival travel routes.
