Jiuzhaigou, literally 'Nine Village Valley' takes its name from the nine Tibetan villages along its length. It is a nature reserve, with altitudes ranging from 2,000 meters to about 4,300 meters, lying between the Sichuan Basin and the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau in the west of Central China. Jiuzhaigou covers about 600 square kilometers and includes Shuzheng Valley, Rize Valley, and Zechawa Valley. It is well known for its multi-level waterfalls and colorful lakes. Huanglong is a neighbor of Jiuzhaigou. It takes about 3 hours to drive between the two scenic spots. Huanglong is famous for its colorful lakes, snow clad mountains, valleys, and virgin forest. These two areas have been named “fairytale world”. China Highlights suggests that visitors go to Huanglong first and then Jiuzhaigou.
