Ba Dinh Square

Just as capital Hanoi is the heart of Vietnam, Ba Dinh Square can be said to be the heart of Hanoi. It is located in the city center and in the northwest of Sword Returning Lake with 320 meters in length and 100 meters in width. It can contain about 20000 people and it is a place for gatherings or festival activities.
Mausoleum, museum and former residence of Chairman Ho Chi Minh can be found in the square. Several boulevards are stretching outwardly with the square as the starting point. Xiong Wang Road with 1000 meters in length and 24 meters in width was just paved through the Ba Dinh Square.
It was set up for memorizing the breakout of first Vietnam war against France in Ba Dinh, Thanh Hoa province. Ho Chi Minh just declared the establishment of Democratic Republic of Vietnam at such a place on September 2, 1945.
Now mausoleum of Chairman Ho Chi Minh stands in the west of the square with expression, nothing is more precious than independence and freedom, engraved in the stone wall in front of the mausoleum. There is the former residence of Ho Chi Minh in Hanoi and the museum in the southwest. In font of the museum the famous one pillar Temple stands.
Just go northward along Xiong Wang Road from the mausoleum, you can find central government offices of Vietnamese communist party on the right and Chairman Mansion on the left. The central government officials can meet leaders from other countries in both places and grand ceremony can be held in the latter place. The square outside Chairman Mansion is used to hold welcome ceremony for foreign representatives of high rank.
