Yichang has several bus stations and the main long-distance bus station is located south of the train station. Departures to Wuhan are plentiful but most of the buses are in poor condition. Travel from Yichang to Wuhan takes around 4hours.
Notice: the bus doesn't stop on the way and there are toilets on board.
Questions and Answers About Yichang Transportation
hi how can we get from yichang to guilin after a yangtse river cruise?
There is no direct train or flight from Yichang to Guilin. You could take a train from Yichang to Liuzhou(about 16 hours), then change to another train to Guilin(around 2.5 hours).
You also could take train to Wuhan(about 2-2.5 hours), take a high speed train to Guilin(about 5.5 hours), or a flight (about 1 hour).

Hi, Thank you for this interesting and useful page. It seems travel from Shanghai to Yichang by fast train, then 3 Gorges cruise (3 nights)to Chongqing and then overland to Chengdu is relatively quick and inexpensive, but return to Shanghai seems a choice between a long train trip or an expensive flight. Am I right?
Dear Bill Tarrant,
You are right, as there is no bullet train from Chongqing to Shanghai. If you take a train to Shanghai, it takes about 28 hours at least. If you take a flight for saving time, the cost is higher than the cost of train ticket. Sometimes you could find a good rate for the flight tickets, it depends the policy of airlines. I will be taking the Yangtze river cruise which would terminate in Yichang. I need to reach Shanghai by 6:00 am the next day. What options do I have? Is there only one flight a day from Yichang to Shanghai?
Hi Roma, which cruise ship have you choose, please? Usually the Yangtze River cruise will arrive in Yichang at 12:00-13:00. And there is a flight from Yichang to Shanghai usually departs at 16:00 and arrives at 17:30 in Shanghai. So it is no problem to reach Shanghai by 6:00 am the next day.
We are a travel agency and have been in the line since 1959. We may offer you a better price for the same cruise ship or tour. Could you kindly let me know your tour date, cruise ship you chose and the number of people? We will send you a quotation for your reference, okay? We also offer transfer service between airports and the cruise piers both in Chongqing and Yichang.

I am planning a China trip and would like to include a trip to Xian and a three to four day Yangtze river cruise starting from Shanghi and ending in Hong Kong. What is best sequence and transportation arrangements between the different ciyies?
Hi Martin, I suggest that you take the Yangtze River Cruise start from Chongqing to Yichang(the essence of the Yangtze River Cruise ), then fly to Shanghai. The route is as below: Xian-Chongqing-Yangtz River Cruise-Yichang-Shanghai-Hong Kong
If the Yangtze River Cruise starts from Shanghai to Chongqing, it usually takes 8 nighs 9 days.
