Weather: July and August are the hottest months of the year and quite sweltering because of the sunny days and high humidity. The average daily high temperature is 33 °C (91 °F), and the average nightly low temperature is 25 °C (77 °F). It feels hot because the humidity is 78%.
It is in July and August when Changsha has weather that fits its title as one of the "Furnace Cities" in China. Especially in the broad inner city concrete expanses, the city swelters in moist heat and temperatures may rise above 40 °C (104 °C).
It rains on about 11 days of the month, and the total rainfall is about 150 mm. Changsha's current weather forecast>>
Pollution: The Quality of Air Index is good at 70.
Clothing: A pair of sunglasses, a sun hat, and clothing can help you cover up and avoid sunburn on sunny Changsha days. Take rain gear if the forecast is for rain.
Early July is when the summer vacation starts for schools and universities. Many parents take their children on a trip. In Changsha, many people teach their children the history of China and remember Mao. July is a good month to be outside in the parks and national parks around Changsha.
Orange Island (橘子洲, Júzǐzhōu) is the first or second most popular attraction in the city. It is known for its gardens and thousands of fruit trees, its frequent firework displays, and a big statue of Mao (above).
Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area: China's most popular and scenic national park is about 4 hours from Changsha. In July the sunny weather and less rainfall makes a good time for a visit and for hiking. On hot days, 'Heaven Son Peak' (Tianzishan /tyen-dz shan/) is a good place to go to keep cool and enjoy amazing cloud sea views. The average temperature is a cool 12 °C (54 °F). Expect crowds. Check the current Zhangjiajie weather forecast.
In July the city of Changsha and Zhangjiajie are full of travelers and groups of students. In other words, it is hard to book Changsha flights and reserve Changsha hotel rooms. There are higher prices for flight tickets and train tickets are harder to obtain. We could arrange those and private transport.
7-Day Hunan Tour: Visit Changsha, Wulingyuan, Mao's hometown, and Fenghuang. Personalize this tour as you wish. See How to Plan a Zhangjiajie Tour or tailor-make a tour, and we'll plan it to your specification.
