Given the time we had available and the month of the year, we think this tour arranged by China Highlights is probably the best.
In Pingyao, we had the opportunity to go to the theatre. There were no other westerners in the audience, we were the only ones! The show was absolutely great, and at the end we received an unexpected homage by the manager and the whole company. It was overwhelming and we'll never forget it. Shirley may explain to you how she managed to organise this great surprise for Pilar and me.
Regarding our guide, as I've said before, Shirley was the best of all. Apart from the theatre, she accompanied us everywhere 'using brain and heart' (do you understand?). And Pingyao under the snow is so beautiful!!!!!!!
Our meals are very nice. The only one below standards was in Pingyao, it was a little bit cold and there was a problem with the hot water that they solved. Anyway, they were extremely kind and they offered very good meals so I should say it was value for money. The breakfast in Guilin wasn't good. The hotel in Yangshuo had great views.
The 'Impressions' show in Yangshuo is good value and, in general, opera and theatre shows in China should be programmed, as the level and skills are outstanding. The only problem is, as we found in Beijing, when they are planned for a western audience: the lack of authenticity.
My travel advisor at China Highlights, Cindy, designed a good programme for couples who are in general reluctant to participate in organised tours.
When we travel, we want to spend as much time as we can at visiting places. We know that this isn't the 'average' feeling of tourists, but it is ours. For instance, in Beijing we'd have spent much more time in The Forbidden City than a couple of hours. Or use part of 'free' time to visit Olimpic City (we went there by ourselves at night). You should try to guess the expectancies of your customers and anticipate them as much as possible. I know it is very difficult...
In word, we had a great trip in China. Thank you, CHina Highlights.
