Occupying an area of 130,000 square meters (1,399,308 square feet), Yunnan Nationality Museum is the biggest nationality museum in China. More than 40, 000 sets of cultural relics of ethnic minorities are collected and retained in the museum, which are rich in their historical, scientific and artistic values.
Yunnan Nationality Museum has the widest range of folk clothing in China. With 16 exhibition series referring to folk, clothing, handicrafts, art, ecology, ancient books and strange stones, it shows visitors the ecological environment, religious practice, culture and cultural relics of ethnic minorities in Yunnan Province.

As a professional museum showcasing the history and culture of the Yunnan ethnic groups, Yunnan Nationality Museum is divided into the Exhibition Area, the Collection Area and the Scientific Research and Office Area, which is home to over 120,000 pieces of cultural relics. The Exhibition Area is composed of eight theme exhibitions: the Social Formation of Yunnan Ethnic Groups— Reform and Development, the Ecological Industry of the Yunnan Ethnic Groups, the Textile Technology and Finery Art of the Yunnan Ethnic Groups, the Folk Art of the Yunnan Ethnic Groups, the Festivals and Dances of the Yunnan Ethnic Groups, the Handicrafts of the Yunnan Ethnic Groups, Ancient Books and Literature of the Yunnan Ethnic Groups, and Grotesque Stones and Rare Jades.
