Palm Reading (Palmistry) — Easily Know Your Fate by Reading Palm Lines

Palm Reading (Palmistry) — Easily Know Your Fate by Reading Palm Lines

By Ruby ZhaoUpdated Jun. 4, 2021

Palm reading, also called palmistry, originated from ancient Asia, and is now popular and fashionable worldwide as a way of seeing a person's fate and personality by reading the lines, shapes, and colors of a person's palms (and fingers).

Some people believe their fate or future is hiding in their hands to some degree. It is essential, and fun too, to consider this question before you begin: "Is your fate in your hands?"

Now, open your hands, and let's go!

Which Palm to Read — Usually the Right Hand

It is believed that the right hand — the dominant hand for most people — represents now and the future, and thus can be changed with time and experience, while the left hand represents the past and traits the person was born together with. Thus, it is more meaningful to take the right hand as priority in palm reading, though both hands for most people are symmetrical (with subtle differences).

There is another level to this, saying that the right hand is for females while the left hand is for males for reading birth traits (and early life), and then right hand for males and left hand for females for reading the present/future (or after a certain age). This is because the left-hand side is associated with males and fatherhood and the right-hand side with females and motherhood in Chinese traditions (e.g. marriage license photos, wedding seating…).

However, on this page we will ignore gender traditions and follow the commonly accepted way of reading the right hand — unless you are left-handed — and go on.

How to Read Palm Lines

palmistry, palm reading lines, the five palm lines

There are five main lines on the palm in Chinese palmistry: the love line, life line, career line, wisdom line, and marriage line. Different lines tell of different parts of life.

The first impression of the palm (given by the five major lines) tells of general information. A bright palm color and clear palm lines reflects good luck in recent days.

1. The Love Line — the Longer the Better

The love line is the line stretching across the hand directly under the fingers. The love line reflects feelings, reactions, and emotional control in the area of love. The longer and straighter it is the better.

If the love line is short and straiht, he/she has little interest in expressing love or romance.

If the love line is long, he/she will probably be a good lover — sweet, understanding, and romantic.

2. The Career Line (Fate Line)

The career line or fate line is the line that stretches from the wrist to the middle finger. It reflects one's fortune and career.

3. The Life Line — the Longer the Better

The life line is the line that extends around the thumb. It is usually in an arc. The length of the life line has no relationship with how long one could live. It reflects one's health and physical vitality.

4. The Wisdom Line — the Clearer and Longer, the Better

The wisdom line usually starts between the index finger and thumb (below the love line) and then stretches to the other side of the palm. It usually looks like it's dividing the palm in halves and reflects a person's mentality and personality.

5. The Marriage Line

The marriage line is a short line above the love line starting immediately under the little finger. It reflects one's romantic relationships and marriage.

Some people have only one line in this place while some have several lines. The number of lines doesn't mean anything. Just read the clearest one.

Two Minor Palm Lines (not the 5 major lines)

The Sun Line: It is a straight line extending down from the ring finger, usually parallel to the fate line. It pertains to fame and glory.

The Health Line (illness line): It is a line stretching down from the little finger to the life line. Having a health line is not a good thing as it indicates health problems. No health line means good health.

A Special Kind of Palmistry

Cutting-palm (half-palm): It's the phenomenon that the life line, wisdom line, and love line approach each other simultaneously so that it looks like just one line cutting the palm.

There is a saying in China that a man with a cutting-palm will have a career while a woman will bring bad luck to her family.

History of Palm Reading

Palmistry has early origins in many regions. According to Brahmanism records and many mural relics in India, palm readingy was popular in ancient India.

Palmistry also has a long history in China, since the Zhou Dynasty (1045–256 BC) more than 3,000 years ago.

The first relatively systematic work of palm reading in China appeared in the Western Han Dynasty(206 BC – 9AD). It was considered to be a part of the physiognomy.

Take Palm Reading Rationally

It's not necessary to be addicted to reading your palms to evaluate your character or future. Palmistry has very volatile characteristics. It can be changed by many factors.

Try to resolve your problems by making a concerted effort rather than believing it's "fate's arrangement".
