Jiayuguan Pass Video

By Kelly PangUpdated Mar. 19, 2021

Jiayu Pass was built in the early Ming Dynasty (around 1372). It is the starting point for the western end of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. The pass fort is composed of defensive walls, gates and army camps. It was not easy to build such a grand pass fortification. At that time construction methods were simple, so many workers were employed for the construction work. Many stories concerning the construction of the pass have been passed down, and some of them are still popular with the local people.
