Lanzhou was an ancient city on the Silk Road trade route between Europe and China, because it is at the entrance of a lowland corridor called the Hexi Corridor. Lanzhou has 3.2 million people living in the urban area and 9% of them are Muslim. The Yellow River Mother Sculpture, Water Wheel Garden, and Zhongshan Iron Bridge are the main attractions in Lanzhou. Lanzhou is close to Xinjiang and Tibet.
