Terracotta Warriors In Xian Video

By Kelly PangUpdated Mar. 19, 2021

The Terracotta Army lay hidden for 2,000 years before local farmers uncovered some pottery while digging a well in 1974. Excavation of the earth and timber vaults revealed thousands of life-sized terracotta figures. The first formal excavation of the site lasted from 1978 to 1984 and uncovered 1,087 clay figures. A second excavation, in 1985, lasted a year but was cut short for technical reasons. The 1974 discovery is regarded as one of the great archeological finds of the 20th century.
