"Hi, I'm Estella, a content specialist at China Highlights. I used to work as a teacher, but I've always been drawn to travel and the feeling of discovery it brings. To me, travel is much more than entertainment. It is a way of discovering new places, understanding different cultures, and seeing the world from fresh perspectives."

My Story

I've loved the idea of travel for as long as I can remember. Even when I was teaching English full-time after graduation, I was always planning my next trip during school breaks, reading destination guides, and dreaming about the places I wanted to visit.

At university, I majored in English and spent a lot of time reading British and American literature, studying translation, and watching films from different cultures. Looking back, those experiences helped me understand how people from different backgrounds see the world. They also taught me how to write in a way that feels natural to international readers.

After university, I spent two years as an English teacher. It was a rewarding experience that taught me to explain complex ideas in a simple, practical way. It also taught me that good explanations begin with understanding what people are really confused about. That's exactly how I approach writing travel guides today.

As much as I enjoyed teaching, I realized that travel had always been the passion I wanted to build my career around. Joining China Highlights gave me the opportunity to combine my love of travel with my love of writing and sharing. Every guide I write starts with the same question: If I were planning this trip myself, what would I want to know?

My Travel Highlights

One of my favorite trips was a six-day journey through Yunnan in the spring of 2026. My boyfriend and I wanted a relaxed vacation rather than a packed sightseeing schedule, so we chose Yunnan for its mild climate, beautiful scenery, and slower pace of life.

Living in Guangxi, I'm used to long, hot, humid summers, so Yunnan's fresh spring air felt like a treat. The streets of Kunming were filled with sunshine and blooming jacaranda trees, and the purple blossoms along Jiaochang Middle Road remain one of my strongest memories of the trip.

Another place I fell in love with was Fuxian Lake. We found a lakeside café, ordered coffee, and spent the afternoon doing almost nothing at all. Watching the sunlight shimmer across the water and feeling the breeze from the lake, I remember thinking that this was exactly what I had hoped the trip would feel like.

That trip reminded me that the best journeys aren't always about seeing more. Sometimes they're about slowing down enough to truly enjoy where you are. I hope the guides I write can help you find moments like that on your own journey.
