"Hi, I'm Lyris Lu, a content specialist at Highlights Travel. I enjoy reading books about nature and culture while traveling, as it helps me create richer travel content. If my writing helps you imagine a journey and inspires you to set off, that is the most rewarding outcome for me."
My Story
I mainly create travel content for destinations like Chengdu, Chongqing, Chaoshan, Fujian, and more.
When I travel, I don't only look for famous sights. I also pay attention to small details — quiet streets, unexpected corners, or problems that actually happen on the road. Those are often the things I end up writing about later.
Chaoshan is a good example. I first became interested in it because it is my boyfriend's hometown and also a place closely connected to overseas Chinese communities. That personal link made me curious enough to plan a 5-day trip there myself.
After the trip, I turned my experience into an article and published it on our website. The article resonated with many readers, especially from Singapore and Malaysia. They were inspired by the experience and later reached out to us to plan trips to Chaoshan.
This made me realize that travel writing not only expands my understanding of the world but also helps others plan their journeys with greater clarity and confidence.
My Travel Highlights
I often travel alone and like to capture moments along the way with my camera. In Slender West Lake, Yangzhou, I saw the scenes from the computer game I was playing restored before my eyes. In Hangzhou, I just sat quietly by West Lake, doing nothing and letting my mind wander. I once went back to Guizhou simply because I missed its sour soup fish hotpot. And once, a car breakdown led me to Yueyang, where I surprisingly saw Dongting Lake, a place I had only known from textbooks. These simple, free, everyday moments keep moving me, and together they make up my travel highlights.
