Between Hong Kong and Macau, the direct transportation options are ferry, bridge (bus), and helicopter. These are the most convenient and fastest ways to travel between these two cities, with a straight-line distance of about 60 kilometers (37.3 miles).

Ferry: Most Popular and an Economical Choice

Riding on a ferry is the most popular way to travel between Hong Kong and Macau.

At present, there are two companies operating ferries from four Hong Kong piers to two Macau piers. The ferries are especially convenient if you are in downtown Hong Kong Island or Tsim Sha Tsui because you can easily find a pier nearby.

There are four piers in Hong Kong with ferry routes connecting to Macau. The most convenient is the Hong Kong–Macau Ferry Terminal as it has more ferries departing every hour than the other piers.

There are two companies operating ferry lines from Hong Kong to Macau: TurboJET and Cotai Water Jet. Reference the following tables for the departure times and ticket prices (the ticket prices depend on the seat level and operation time; the prices also increase late at night as well as at weekends and holidays).

By Bridge: Fast and the Most Economical Choice

The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge is the longest crossing connecting Hong Kong and Macau. Taking the shuttle bus from Hong Kong to Macau takes about half the time and costs about half the price than taking the ferry.

You can take the shuttle bus at Hong Kong International Airport in Lantau Island. If you are already in Lantau, taking the bus is the best way to travel to Macau.

However, if you are in Hong Kong Island or Tsim Sha Tsui, you may need to take the metro first to reach the airport, which may take more time. Despite this, it is still the most economical choice if you are traveling on a budget.

Service time: 24 hours a day

Travel time: 30–40 minutes

Ticket fare: 65 HKD (daytime) / 70 HKD (0:00–06:00). Children under 12 years old or 1.2 meters in height and seniors over 65 years old can enjoy 50% off.

Frequency: Each bus departs when it is fully loaded. You may wait 5–10 minutes during rush hours or 15–30 minutes during off-peak hours and late at night.

Luggage allowance: Every passenger can carry one item of luggage not exceeding 64 cm x 41 cm x 23 cm in volume or 10 kg in weight. Please be aware that there is no luggage consignment service.

Helicopter: Fastest but Most Expensive Choice

Taking a helicopter ride with Sky Shuttle is the most swift and convenient means of transportation between Hong Kong and Macau. The journey time is only 15 minutes. If you would like the experience and are not traveling on a budget, taking a helicopter ride is the fastest and coolest option.

Service time: The helicopter departs every 30 minutes from 10:30 to 22:59. There are additional services on designated holidays. You should arrive at the passenger lounge at least 15 minutes before the departure time.
