Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province, is normally the gateway city for a Yunnan tour. It is a desirable metropolis with a comfortable climate, natural scenery, four-season flowers and a slow pace of life. Spending some time in Kunming is not only a chance to see the popular attractions such as the Stone Forest and West Hill, but also a chance to get a general impression of life in Yunnan. See the incredible vegetables in a wet market, visit a huge flower market, and taste authentic Yunnan food in a time-honored local restaurant.
Our Kunming tours will take you to enjoy the best of the "Spring City" and discover its distinct urban culture and leisurely lifestyle.

Yunnan Province 2024
We spent a fabulous week traveling through Yunnan. Our guides, Jack (Shangri la) Alice (Lijiang) Frank (Dali) and Rosemary (Kunming) all have deep knowledge of their cities and did an excellent job showing us their home areas. Our driver Mr Liu was also excellent taking us safely from place to place. This China Highlights trip was as advertised and we highly recommend it. more

Amazing family trip to Yunnan
Our trip to Yunnan was amazing and there were a tonne of well thought out activities to entertain everyone. Our guides May (Kunming), Sally (Dali), Alice (Lijiang), Daniel (Lijiang), Pema (Shangri-La) and driver 尹光涛师傅 were very knowledgeable and thoughtful. We also made some ad hoc adjustments to the itinerary which was facilitated by the guides. more

Unforgettable Yunnan
We went to Lijiang, Shaxi and Dali. My second time, my family’s first time. It was absolutely amazing, an experience filled with culture, nature and delicious foods. I would strongly recommend China Highlights to organise this trip for you as they know exactly what to show you and their service is excellent. Big shoutout to Coco, our agent who never disappoints. To Eleanor, our very capable and friendly guide in Lijiang. To Frank, our amazing, caring and extremely knowledgeable guide in Shaxi and Dali (no guide will ever take photos as good as Frank, trust me ;) more

Useful Tips for Your Kunming Trip
Average daily temperatures in summer in Kunming are 16–22°C (61–72°F) and the typical winter range is 3–16°C (36–61°F). Rainfall is concentrated from May to October, peaking with the summer heat, when almost daily rain then keeps temperatures moderate.
The weather can be very changeable in a single day in the wet monsoon months, and the temperature difference is big between daytime and night, especially in the dry, cooler months (November–April). So, an extra jacket/coat is a must all year round.
Sun protection is very important when you visit Kunming. You still can get sunburn even if you don't feel the heat of the sunlight. Read more
