Jiuzhaigou Weather in November

jiuzhaigou valley scenic

Weather: It freezes in November. Average daily low and high temperatures are 0 °C (32 °F) and 12 °C (54 °F) in November. There is about 10 millimeters of total rainfall each November, and precipitation falls on about 7 days of the month. You may experience snow. The snow is quite charming. See the current weather and forecast>>

Nearby Huanglong Valley is another popular park valley you can see. It is about 50 kilometers away in a straight line. Since it is about a kilometer higher in altitude, by this time of year, temperatures fall well below freezing (-10 °C (14 °F)) at night and are a cold 3 °C (37 °F) around noon. There is about 15 mm (.5 inches) of rain or snowfall. There is usually snow cover, and the leaves are off the trees.

Clothing: Most of the time, clothing suitable for autumn and an overcoat are sufficient for Jiuzhaigou. Take rain gear and wear shoes with good traction.

Altitude Sickness: You'll probably experience it during an extended stay because most of the park lies between 2,000 meters (6,561 feet) and 3,000 meters (9,800 feet). The airport is at an unusually high elevation of 3,500 meters. Take precautions if you have high blood pressure, heart disease or other medical conditions. Walk downhill instead of uphill to avoid overexertion.

Things to Do

The optimal time for beautiful scenery ends in early November. So the big crowds are gone by the middle of the month, and you can enjoy walking in the valley without big crowds on your heels.

Hike in Rize Valley: Higher altitude Rize Valley is still picturesque in November. You might see patches of beautiful trees clothed in yellow and red leaves contrast the blue and green hues of the ponds. It will probably create wonderful autumn scenes for hiking.

Rize Valley is an upper altitude valley above 2,300 meters that is about 18 kilometers (11 miles) long. There is a variety of scenery and colorful carbonate pools. You can hike down to Nourilang Falls at an elevation of 2,300 meters or 7,700 feet. It is one of Jiuzhaigou's main attractions and is more scenic than its twin valley called Zechawa Valley. So we suggest that you see this first if you only have a choice of one or the other.

Enjoy Huanglong Valley: There is another park nearby that is a UNESCO Heritage site and a nature preserve. It is about 4 hours away. It is less visited than Jiuzhaigou, and since there are no park buses, you can walk and enjoy the hundreds of ponds such as Mirror Ponds if you are in good shape. These might be frozen or partly frozen, but they are still interesting. Oxygen is available at the top if you need it. Wear shoes with good traction and gloves during your walk.

Hi, I plan to be in Jiuzhaigou from Nov 13 - 17. Will it be snow then? Should we join the local tour group (just me and my friend)? Thanks.
Hi Telly, sorry, as a travel agent, we are not able to provide the correct information. Please keep an eye on the weather forecast. As the private transfer is very expensive there, so join the local tour group would be much cheaper. Whitney Liao replied on 2012-11-03

Hi Sammy, November marks the beginning of winter in Jiuzhaigou, and the month gets quite cold with an average temperature of 7 ° C (44.6 ° F). You may also experience heavy snow, and the temperature differences fall between 10 ° C (50 ° F) and 15 ° C (59 ° F).

Given the cold weather, it is quite important to wear thick clothes to stay warm. Bring leather or downclothing, thick woolen sweaters and trousers, as well as thick shoes. If you don’t want to carry too much luggage, spend 10 yuan (US$1.58) and rent some clothing that will keep you warm.

It is cool in  Chengdu. The average highest temperature is around 16 °C (61 °F ) and the lowest temperature is about 10 °C (50 °C ).  Long trousers and a coat will do, and wear socks most of the time to stay warm.
