Datong is a famous tourist city in northern China. Beijing to Datong railway is very popular. High-speed service between Beijing and Datong is now available, with the travel time of around 2 hours. Beijing to Datong high-speed trains terminate at Qinghe or Beijing North stations in Beijing and Datong South Station in Datong.

Besides, there are still normal-speed trains between Beijing and Datong, with the travel time of around 6 hours. Most of them are overnight trains, which depart at night and arrive early in the morning. Hard sleeper and soft sleeper are recommended if you take a train between Beijing and Datong.

High-Speed Train Vs Regular Trains

1. In Beijing, high-speed trains depart or end at Beijing North Railway Station or Qinghe Railway Station, which are different stations from the most commonly used high-speed train stations of Beijing West and Beijing South. In Datong, high-speed trains depart or end at Datong South Railway Station, which is a newly built high-speed train station far away from the city center.

2. Regular trains all terminate at train stations in both cities that are centrally located.

3. High-speed trains are faster and more comfortable.

4. High-speed train ticket fares are higher than regular train ticket fares.

5. Overnight regular trains like K89, K695, K885 from Beijing to Datong; and trains K962, K56, K598 from Datong to Beijing can save you the sightseeing time during the day and a hotel's bill.
