Hong Kong – Guangzhou Trains

From Hong Kong to Guangzhou, high-speed trains are the most convenient way. There are 34 daily high-speed trains traveling between these two cities, operating at bullet train stations of West Kowloon (西九龙站) and Guangzhou South (广州南站). The fastest trains take only 47 minutes to finish 170 kilometers. Second class seat ticket costs US$32; first class seat ticket costs US$48.

Through trains between Hong Kong and Guangzhou are also available, taking a longer travel time of around 2 hours. Through train number are prefixed with a letter Z; high-speed train numbers are prefixed with a letter G.

Child ticket:

  • A child ticket is half of the full ticket price.
  • One child below 1.2 m, and who doesn’t take up a seat, can travel per adult for free.
  • Child fares apply for children under 12 years old and below 1.5 m. The child ticket fare is half of the adult ticket fare.
  • Children above 1.5 m or over 12 years old are charged as adults.

Co-Location Arrangement at West Kowloon Station

With the co-location arrangement in Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, travelers who take cross-boundary high-speed trains between Hong Kong and mainland China save a lot of hassle and time going through the customs. Entry and exit formalities can be done on the same floor at West Kowloon Station.

Upon arrival by high-speed trains at Hong Kong, travelers can go through entry (Hong Kong) and exit (mainland China) formalities on the same floor of -2F. When leaving Hong Kong, passengers, go through exit (Hong Kong) and entry (mainland China) on -3F.

Guangzhou – Hong Kong Non-Bullet Trains are also called Guangzhou – Hong Kong through trains. There are 12 pairs of through trains daily, connecting Guangzhou to Kowloon East Rail Line.

They are terminated at Guangzhou East Railway Station (广州东站) and Hong Kong's Hong Kong Hung Hom Railway Station (红磡站), with travel time of around 2 hours. Please note that Hung Hom Railway Station is not Hong Kong West Kowloon Railway Station.

Child Prices

Guangzhou – Hong Kong through trains apply different child fares from high-speed trains. Please find the policy below:

  • Child fares only apply for children aged between 5 and 9 years old.
  • One child younger than 5 years old can ride with an adult for free; one adult can only take one child of this age providing the child doesn’t take up a seat.
  • Children of 10 years old and above have to pay the full price.

For Guangzhou – Hong Kong High-Speed Trains

You can buy tickets on Guangzhou - Hong Kong high-speed trains through four ways: online with a travel agency, by telephone, at a train station or at local ticket agencies. Buying tickets online is recommended.

Customs and Immigrations at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station

If you take high-speed train from Hong Kong to Guilin, go through the customs at the Immigration/Customs Departure Hall on -3F at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station. Please ensure that you complete the ‘Hong Kong Departure Card’ and the ‘China Arrival Card’. If you fail to obtain and complete these cards, you would be sent back to collect and fill-in the forms, and queue again. The queues can be long and this will cause some inconvenience with the possibility of you missing your train. All your luggage must also go through security checks and x-rayed. We advise that you arrive at the train station at least 2 hours before your departure time.

If you take high-speed trains from Guilin to Hong Kong, you need to go through customs twice on arrival concourse on -2F. Please complete the Arrival/Departure Cards before you go to the officer.
