Kunming Changshui International Airport (KMG) is the major international transportation hub for travel to Yunnan. There are direct flights from Singapore.
Nearby cities such as Chongqing, Chengdu, Zhangjiajie, and Guilin are good options for connecting to Kunming.
2. Yunnan Attractions Map—How Much Time Do You Need in Each Place?
Don't plan Yunnan by counting attractions. Plan around how much time each area actually needs.

Kunming — 1–2 days
Kunming is usually the starting point of a Yunnan trip. You can use it as a gateway before heading to other areas.
Allow 1 full day if you mainly want to visit the Stone Forest.
Allow 2 days if you also want to explore the city and have a more relaxed arrival.
Dali — 2–3 days
Dali deserves more than an overnight stop.
Spend 2 days for Dali Ancient Town and Erhai Lake.
Add a third day if you want a slower pace, a village visit, or a deeper experience at Bai culture.
Shaxi Ancient Town: add about 1 day between Dali and Lijiang.
Lijiang — 2–3 days
Allow 2–3 days for Lijiang.
Spend 1 day on Lijiang Old Town and Naxi culture, and another day on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
If you want a hands-on cultural experience, use the extra time for activities such as a Naxi cooking experience.
Tiger Leaping Gorge: allow about 1 day between Lijiang and Shangri-La.
Lugu Lake: allow about 2 days as an extension from Lijiang.
Shangri-La — 2–3 days
Add Shangri-La if your trip is 8 days or longer.
At around 3,300 meters above sea level, the city deserves more than a rushed overnight stay.
Allow 2–3 days for Dukezong Ancient Town, Tibetan culture, and the surrounding highland scenery.
3. Yunnan Itinerary Map—Which Regions Fit Your Travel Time?
For a first trip, 8–12 days is ideal for exploring Northern Yunnan with the most classic scenery.
With more than 12 days, you can add another region of Yunnan and experience a different side of the province.

4. Yunnan Transportation Map—How to Connect the Main Destinations
High-speed rail is very convenient in Yunnan Province, and you can usually travel between cities by train.
For families with older adults, or if you prefer comfort and privacy, consider a private tour with private transfer. It offers greater flexibility and allows you to add stops such as Shaxi Ancient Town between Dali and Lijiang or Tiger Leaping Gorge between Lijiang and Shangri-La.
If you return to Kunming from Shangri-La to leave, we recommend taking the high-speed train. Shangri-La's high-altitude weather can cause flight delays or cancellations, while the train is more reliable, takes a similar amount of time, and is usually cheaper.
5. Yunnan Accommodation Map—Where to Stay Along the Classic Route?
The most practical hotel locations are usually near the old town rather than deep inside it, where narrow stone-paved streets can make luggage handling and vehicle access inconvenient.
Kunming: Stay Around Green Lake
Choose the area around Green Lake Park if you want convenient access to central Kunming, restaurants, and everyday local life.
Dali: Stay Near the South Gate of Dali Ancient Town or Erhai Lake
For easy sightseeing, stay around the South Gate of Dali Ancient Town, where you can easily explore the old town and nearby restaurants.
If your priority is lake scenery, choose a hotel around Erhai Lake instead.
Lijiang: Stay Near the South Gate of Lijiang Old Town
The South Gate of Lijiang Old Town is the most practical area to stay. You can walk into the old town while enjoying easier vehicle access outside the busiest pedestrian streets.
Shangri-La: Stay Near the East Gate of Dukezong Old Town
Stay near the East Gate of Dukezong Ancient Town for easy access to the old town and more convenient transfers to surrounding attractions.
