After three years’ of construction, Jinan–Qingdao High-Speed Railway was put into service at the end of 2018. There are more than 50 daily high-speed trains running on this rail line, with the average travel time of about 2 hours, with the design speed of 350 kph (217 mph). High-speed trains operate at different railway stations in both cities. They terminate at Jinan East, Jinan West, and Jinan railway stations, Qingdao, Qingdao North and Qingdao West railway stations.

Newly opened in December, 2018, Jinan East Railway Station was opened at the same time as Jinan–Qingdao High-Speed Railway, mainly serving high-speed trains to Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan and Qingdao. It also the terminus for intercity trains from Jinan to Binzhou, Laiwu and Tai’an. Some of high-speed trains from Jinan to Beijing, Zhengzhou and Shanghai also depart from here.
A subway station is available underground of Jinan East Railway Station. Other public means of transportation of bus, taxi and intercity bus also connect this station to other parts of the city.

Jinan West Railway Station was put into service in 2011. It was built mainly serves high-speed trains to Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shijiazhuang, Qingdao and Weifang. It is 17 kilometers (11 miles) from Jinan East Railway Station and 31 kilometers (19 miles) from Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport.
