When Is Chinese New Year 2021?

Chinese New Year dates change every year.Chinese New Year 2021 will fall on Friday, February 12th, 2021, and celebrations will continue from New Year's Eve for 16 days in total.

How Long Is the Chinese New Year Holiday 2021?

Chinese New Year Chinese New Year is China's top family relaxation time.

The Official Holiday — 7 Days

The standard public holiday for (Mainland) Chinese is 7 days from Chinese New Year's Eve to day 6 of the lunar calendar new year.  Chinese people will get 7 days off from work from February 11 – 17 in 2021.

The Traditional Holiday Period — 23 days

Traditionally New Year activities started as early as three weeks before Chinese New Year's Eve. Traditional (mostly rural) folk start cleaning their houses from the 23rd of the twelfth lunar month (February 4, 2021).

Traditionally the end of the Spring Festival (the Chinese New Year holiday) is the Lantern Festival — Chinese month 1 day 15. 

Chinese New Year Dates & Calendar in 2021

Chinese New Year 2021 falls on February 12th. 

The public holiday lasts for 7 days from February 11  to February 17, 2021, with the peak time on Chinese New Year's Eve (Feb. 11th) and the New Year's Day (Feb. 12th). 

The festival celebration is not ended until the Lantern Festival on February 26th, 2021. 

Why Do Chinese New Year Dates Change Every Year?

You might be curious that why is Chinese New Year on a different date every year? The Chinese New Year date is decided by China's Lunar Calendar. Chinese New Year's Day is the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar.

The date is different each year on the Gregorian (internationally used) calendar, but is always between January 21st and February 20th.
